    Understanding local networks and issues

    TER SNCF Voyageurs has a unique advantage: its knowledge of local players and issues. Our experience in the field is complemented by constant monitoring, to keep abreast of new mobility needs and practices.

    TER SNCF Voyageurs has extensive experience in the field of mobility, and supports the French regions in the organization and implementation of their public transport systems.

    To achieve this, we have opted for decentralized, local management, with a TER business unit located at the heart of each region. Our teams support all the local players involved, integrating all legislative and organizational changes, with an understanding of the complex issues at stake in each region.

    Régioscopie, a detailed panorama of regional mobility

    TER SNCF Voyageurs has developed "Régioscopie", a series of studies that analyze the travel habits of residents and visitors in each region, as well as the frequency and modalities of journeys, taking into account changes in society (such as the impact of teleworking or the aging of the population). The result? Precise mapping of passenger and trip typologies. For Transit Authorities, Régioscopie is a reliable, up-to-date decision-making tool, capable of contributing to the design of their future transport plans.

    "The Normandoscopie studies we have carried out for the Normandie Region have enabled us to better apprehend and understand lifestyles and mobility in the various territories."

    Christophe Romanet,

    Director of New TER Offers.

    Régioscopie is a tool for understanding territories, lifestyles and mobility. It is made up of a national observatory and regional versions.

    Tailor-made offers

    Geography, demographics, uses, economy... every region is unique.Our expertise in supply-side engineering enables us to work with our stakeholders to build effective, customized mobility solutions.

    A wide range of solutions

    To meet the specific needs of the areas it serves, TER SNCF Voyageurs has developed a simple service typology tailored to the needs of each catchment area to guarantee a fair cost:

    • metropolitan area connections, with frequent, high-capacity service (Citi) ;
    • fast connections between major regional hubs, with comfortable, regular service over a wide range of hours (Krono);
    • fine service to less densely populated areas, such as suburbs, medium-sized urban centers or more rural areas (Proxi).

    Offer engineering

    Regional teams and experts from TER SNCF Voyageurs have developed a "blank sheet" method combining marketing, rail operations and equipment maintenance, to meet the needs of regions wishing to improve their mobility offer.

    "We're rethinking transport plans to deliver ever more attractive, robust and competitive offers, drawing on innovative tools created in conjunction with regional universities and grandes écoles."

    Marie-Laure Quéré,

    Head of TER Offer Engineering.

    In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Optim'TER was created at the request of the Region to improve rail services at constant operating cost.

    Innovative tools for Transit Authorities

    TER SNCF Voyageurs provides Organizing Authorities with a number of simulation tools useful at every stage in the creation of a transport plan.

    • Geomark&TER, which makes it possible to reconstitute the travel market in a given territory, notably using mobile traces, to calculate the market share of each mode of transport, to analyze the competitive positioning (journey times and prices) of public transport compared with the car, and to model the market that can be captured by public transport modes and compare it with the current or projected offer.
    • SIMULTER, which anticipates a plurality of possible scenarios to help with the industrial design of transportation plans.
    • DENFERT, to assess the hazard resistance of the planned transport plan.

    SERM, the TER for major cities

    The Bordeaux REM in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Strasbourg REME in Grand-Est and the Léman Express in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes offer regular services throughout the day. On the strength of these initial experiences, TER SNCF Voyageurs is supporting the Regions and local authorities in their studies of the Metropolitan Regional Express Services (SERM) under consideration following the law of December 27, 2023.
