It’s not just our trains that are moving at full speed – the world is too: our customers’ expectations are changing, the number of passengers is growing, and competition is reshaping the landscape across all our markets. So we’re convinced that, now more than ever, our future is shaped by movement.

Our company was established on 1 January 2020 as part of the new unified public group, SNCF, and we are a public company wholly owned by the holding company SNCF SA.

Our mission is to provide the best green transport solutions for travellers, to meet everyone’s needs in terms of choice, cost, quality of service and environmental sustainability, whilst constantly adapting to changing patterns of use.

Every day, we do our utmost to meet the expectations of all our customers: travellers, as well as transport organising authorities such as central government (INTERCITÉS trains) or regional authorities (Transilien and TER), players in the mobility sector, manufacturers and construction companies.

To fulfil our mission, we are organised around three main divisions – corresponding to the three transport sectors – which define and manage our travel services:

• TGV-INTERCITÉS, for long-distance trains in France and across Europe (TGV INOUI, OUIGO, INTERCITÉS, Eurostar, Thalys, TGV Lyria, etc.);
• TER, the regional train operator for the eleven metropolitan regions and transport organising authorities, excluding Île-de-France and Corsica;
• Transilien, operator of 15 train and RER lines in Île-de-France on behalf of Île-de-France Mobilités.

Various departments and centres of expertise operate across the organisation:

• the Industrial Division brings together the Rolling Stock, Traction and Train Paths departments. It is responsible for the industrial maintenance of the 17,000 trains belonging to the SNCF Group and external customers (passenger and freight), as well as for the development of new rolling stock. It is also responsible for operational excellence, an approach adopted to maximise our performance in terms of productivity, service quality and costs;
• the Passenger Safety Department defines the rules and tools that ensure the safety of train operations, passengers and staff, and oversees their implementation; it is also responsible for the compliance of rolling stock;
• the subsidiary SNCF Connect & Tech manages the SNCF Connect website and app;
• the General Secretariat oversees cross-functional areas (strategy, HR, communications, finance, energy, regulation, etc.).

A leader across the entire travel chain

Because you can’t just become a rail operator overnight, we’re proud of our heritage and the expertise of the SNCF’s specialist teams.

To meet the ever-changing needs of passengers, we strive every day to enhance and develop our expertise.

Our business activities cover the entire travel chain, from sales and transport to maintenance and security, with the customer at the heart of everything we do:

• ticket sales and distribution, ticketing solutions;
• passenger information;
• driving
• on-board service and supervision;
• routine and major maintenance of rolling stock;
• engineering;
• development of new rolling stock;
• operations in urban and regional areas;
• management of energy solutions;
• etc.

Our expertise across all sectors and our ability to harness the synergies between our various activities enable us to offer bespoke, ‘end-to-end’ solutions to meet the requirements of transport organising authorities in the context of tenders.

To stay one step ahead, our specialist teams are working on forward-looking and R&D projects to design the passenger transport of the future, and to improve the flow, accessibility and quality of train travel on a day-to-day basis:

• new trains such as the hybrid TER or the TGV M, which is modular, recyclable and connected;
• predictive maintenance;
• the Mass Transit systems of tomorrow;
• data;
• and many other projects.

SNCF Voyageurs is the proud custodian of a long history of records and firsts, which form the bedrock of our culture of innovation.

As a rail operator, we have historically been in competition with other modes of transport: cars, aeroplanes and medium- and long-distance coaches.

Competition has also always existed in the sale of tickets.

But today, it extends to our specific business areas: passenger rail transport, digital services and industrial maintenance – activities that are gradually opening up to other operators.

We are determined to demonstrate our expertise and our commitment to excellence in the face of our new competitors, whether in tenders for contracted services (TER, Transilien and INTERCITÉS) or on the open-access market for medium- and long-distance routes.
