    Understanding the territorial network and issues

    TER SNCF Voyageurs has a unique advantage: its knowledge of local players and issues. Our experience in the field is complemented by constant monitoring to identify new practices and new mobility needs.

    TER SNCF Voyageurs has extensive experience in the field of transport, and supports the French Regions in the organisation and implementation of their public transport systems.

    To achieve this, it has opted for decentralised, local management, with a TER business unit located at the heart of each region. Our teams provide support to all the local players involved, integrating all the legislative and organisational changes, with an understanding of the complex issues at stake in each region.

    Régioscopie, a detailed overview of mobility in the region

    TER SNCF Voyageurs has developed "Régioscopie", a series of studies that analyse the travel habits of residents and visitors in each region, and the frequency and methods of journeys, taking into account changes in society (such as the impact of teleworking or the ageing of the population). The key results? A precise map of passenger and trip types. For Organising Authorities, Régioscopie is a reliable, up-to-date decision-making tool that can help them design their future transport plans.

    "The Normandoscopie studies we have carried out for the Normandie Region have enabled us to gain a better understanding of lifestyles and mobility in the various regions.

    Christophe Romanet,

    Director of New TER Offers.

    Régioscopie is a tool for understanding territories, lifestyles and mobility. It consists of a national observatory and regional versions.

    Offering a tailor-made service

    Geography, demographics, uses, economy... every region is unique.Our expertise in supply-side engineering means that we can work with stakeholders to develop effective, tailored mobility solutions.

    A wide range of solutions

    To meet the specific needs of the areas served, TER SNCF Voyageurs has developed a simple service typology, sized according to the needs of each catchment area to guarantee a fair cost:

    • coverage of metropolitan areas, with a frequent, high-capacity service (Citi) ;
    • fast connections between major regional centres, with a comfortable, regular service over a wide range of hours (Krono);
    • fine services to less densely populated areas, such as suburban areas, medium-sized urban centres or more rural areas (Proxi).

    Offer engineering

    The regional teams and experts at TER SNCF Voyageurs have developed a "blank sheet" method combining marketing, rail operations and equipment maintenance, to meet the needs of regions wishing to improve their mobility offer.

    "We are rethinking our transport plans to deliver ever more attractive, robust and competitive services, using innovative tools created in conjunction with regional universities and business schools.

    Marie-Laure Quéré,

    Head of TER Offer Engineering.

    In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Optim'TER was set up at the request of the Region to improve rail services at constant operating cost.

    Innovative tools to help Transit Authorities

    TER SNCF Voyageurs provides Organising Authorities with a number of simulation tools that are useful at each stage in the creation of a transport plan.

    • Geomark&TER, which can be used to reconstitute the travel market in a given area, in particular using mobile traces, to calculate the market share of each mode of transport, to analyse the competitive position (journey times and prices) of public transport compared with the car, and to model the market that can be captured by public transport modes and compare it with the current or planned offer.
    • SIMULTER, which anticipates a range of possible scenarios to help with the industrial design of the transport plan
    • DENFERT, to evaluate the resilience of the planned transport plan to hazards.

    SERM, TER services for major cities

    The Bordeaux REM in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Strasbourg REME in Grand-Est and the Léman Express in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes offer regular services throughout the day. On the strength of these initial experiences, TER SNCF Voyageurs is supporting the Regions and local authorities in their studies of the Metropolitan Regional Express Services (SERM) under consideration following the law of 27 December 2023.
