With all our 27,000 employees, we take action for the environment, associations and regional development, by supporting the ambitions of organizing authorities. TER SNCF Voyageurs is transforming its organization to become a more agile, accessible and ultra-reactive partner, so that it can continue to offer top-quality rail services in a competitive environment.

    Committed to sustainable development

The regions are at the forefront of making sustainable development a reality. We offer decision-makers and players in the mobility sector the chance to make regional rail a tangible asset in support of their CSR objectives.

In the face of climate and environmental challenges, we are reducing our energy and water consumption, our greenhouse gas emissions, and also our environmental footprint through actions to preserve biodiversity and eradicate pollution of all kinds.

In partnership with Alstom and CAF, TER SNCF Voyageurs is carrying out a number of projects with the French Regions to decarbonize rolling stock running on lines that are not fully electrified and still use diesel.

    2024
The first hybrid TER makes its debut in commercial service on the lines of four partner regions during the year. Using alternatively electric power, combustion engines or energy stored in batteries, these trains generate up to 20% energy savings and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
    end 2025
The first TER trains, whose diesel engines will have been replaced by lithium batteries, will be put into service, with up to 85% less CO2 emissions and zero local pollution.
    2026
The first hydrogen TERs combining fuel cells, hydrogen tanks and batteries will be deployed in four regional networks. In Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, SNCF Voyageurs has taken on the project management of the hydrogen distribution station for these new trains...

Industrial innovations to serve low-density areas

Designed in partnership with industrial and technological players, new lightweight equipment will provide unprecedented solutions for the development of lifelines that will be essential to territories from 2025 onwards.

The Draisy battery-powered rail mobile will accommodate up to 80 passengers, and have lower operating costs than a conventional train.

Flexy, a 14-seat electric road-rail shuttle, will operate on both rail and road without the need for anything other than modal transition platforms.

The innovative battery-powered TELLi Light Train could replace diesel-powered trains by 2030, running on mainline lines to major stations.

Developing social actions with a positive impact

TER SNCF Voyageurs has in its DNA a concern for the common good and a sense of French public service. We actively support local associations and players.

Our strategy: recruit locally, support associations enabling young people to become active citizens, buy responsibly, work in schools and with social integration organizations, promote low-carbon tourism, and of course offer travelers the best possible sustainable mobility experience.

Our employees are involved in the life of their local communities, playing a professional and often civic role - a testament to their local roots and their involvement in the day-to-day life of the area.

We take care to develop actions with a positive impact for the benefit of the regions and passengers.

We are constantly investing to ensure that we remain a benchmark in terms of training, professional insertion and integration of people with disabilities, and more generally for the quality of life at work and the commitment of our employees.

Autonomous, dedicated companies: a guarantee of efficiency

As part of the process of opening up to competition, TER SNCF Voyageurs has chosen to set up a dedicated company for each contract won in the tender process.

The first three dedicated companies were set up in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Hauts-de-France and Pays-de-la-Loire following the award of the lots opened to competition.

At the end of 2019, the Sud region launched the first national tender for a regional train line lot. In 2021, it awarded TER SNCF Voyageurs the Azur Axes lot. The dedicated autonomous company SNCF Voyageurs Sud Azur was thus created in November 2021, tasked with preparing the start-up of its lines.
Objective: to develop the offer while ensuring a high level of service quality, particularly in terms of regularity. A new operations center and a new maintenance center have been set up in Nice for the launch of operations in December 2024.

"Each dedicated company has full autonomy in terms of finance, management, resources and production facilities. This close-knit governance will ensure agility at the highest market standards, in line with the expectations of decision-makers."
