Train and bike

Your bike on board
Your conditions for boarding
Whichever train you take, there are three options, subject to availability:
- Travel with your bike1 unassembled and stored in the dedicated spaces on board our trains.
- Travel with your folding bike, if it is folded and measures no more than 90 x 130 x 50 cm when folded.
- Travel with your bike dismantled, provided that it is transported in a special bag and that the bag measures a maximum of 90 x 130 x 50 cm.
By Transilien
Travel free of charge in Île-de-France with your bike2:
- Monday to Friday before 6.30am, between 9.30am and 4.30pm and after 7.30pm;
- Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, with no time restrictions;
- whatever the time or day, you cannot take your bike on to the train if it is very busy;
- Tip: opt for a folding bike and travel without restrictions and without disturbing other passengers.
On board a TER
On most TER trains, your bicycle travels free of charge, either suspended or placed in a special space. These spaces are accessible subject to availability, often without reservation. However, there are exceptions in certain regions with their own reservation procedures.
Your TGV INOUI journey
If you are travelling with an unfolded, unassembled bicycle
- You must reserve a space for your bike when you buy your train ticket. The cost is €10 per bike per journey.
- Your bike must then be stored in a dedicated space, and you will be allocated a seat next to your bike.
- You must reserve your bike when you buy your train ticket. For this reason, cyclists cannot travel with non-cyclists. To travel with non-cyclists, you must make separate reservations.
- If your search does not return any results, this means that the TGV INOUI equipment does not have a dedicated space or no space is available. You can always take your bike apart and store it in a bag, free of charge and without having to make a reservation.
Travelling with a folded or dismantled bike
- Your folded bike can travel with you as luggage as long as it measures no more than 90 x 130 x 50 cm when folded.
- Your dismantled bike in a labelled cover measuring a maximum of 90 x 130 x 50 cm can also travel with you as luggage. Your bike must be dismantled before accessing the platform, stored completely in its transport bag and placed in the baggage area on board TGV INOUI trains.
The rules for a folded or dismantled bicycle in a transport bag also apply to TGV INOUI trains to and from Spain, Italy, Belgium, Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany) and Luxembourg, and to TGV INOUI and ICE trains to and from Germany with DB SNCF Voyageurs.
Not all bicycles are accepted on board: recumbent bicycles, tricycles, cargo bikes, longtails, trailers and bicycles transported in cardboard boxes are prohibited.
Your INTERCITÉS journey
Each INTERCITÉS train has a space for transporting bicycles. Reservation of this space is compulsory 3 and must be made at the same time as purchasing the ticket.
- The cost is €10 per bicycle per journey on daytime INTERCITÉS trains (Paris-Limoges-Toulouse, Paris-Clermont-Ferrand, Bordeaux-Marseille) and on night-time INTERCITÉS trains (Paris-Briançon, Paris-Nice, Paris-Cerbère, Paris-Toulouse-Matabiau, Paris-Tarbes).
- On the Toulouse-Hendaye, Nantes-Lyon, Nantes-Bordeaux and Nancy-Lyon INTERCITÉS lines, the cost is €5 per bike per journey.
If you are travelling with an unmounted, unfolded bicycle, you can take up to 1 piece of labelled luggage per person, measuring no more than 70 x 90 x 50 cm (suitcase, large rucksack, hiking bag, sports bag), 1 labelled double bicycle bag and 1 piece of labelled hand luggage measuring no more than 40 x 30 x 15 cm (rucksack, shopping bag, computer bag).
If you are travelling with a folded or dismantled bicycle in a bag, you can take with you, per person, up to 1 folded or dismantled bicycle in a labelled bag measuring no more than 90 x 130 cm, 1 labelled double bicycle bag and 1 labelled piece of hand luggage measuring no more than 40 x 30 x 15 cm (rucksack, shopping bag, computer bag).
Not all bicycles are accepted on INTERCITÉS trains: recumbents, tricycles, tandems, cargo bikes, longtails and trailers are not permitted.
To book or not to book?
Reserving a seat for an unmounted bike is compulsory3 on all INTERCITÉS trains. If your search does not produce any results when you make your reservation, this means that there are no more seats available for your bike.
Folded or dismantled, stored in a bag (maximum 130 x 90 cm), it does not need a reserved seat.
Failure to comply with the baggage policy on board TGV INOUI and INTERCITÉS trains may result in the payment of a minimum of €50 per item of non-compliant or excess baggage (maximum €150).
Your OUIGO journey
On board OUIGO Grande Vitesse trains, you will be charged €5 for your folding or demountable bicycle, stored in a bag.
On OUIGO Train Classique trains, you can choose between :
- the unassembled bike option at €10
- the folding or collapsible bike option at €5
Your trip to Europe
The rules for a folded or dismantled bicycle in a TGV INOUI bag also apply to TGV INOUI trains from and to Spain, Italy, Belgium, Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany) and Luxembourg, and to TGV INOUI and ICE trains from and to Germany with DB SNCF Voyageurs in cooperation.
You can either fold your bike and transport it in a bag, use our check-in service on the day of departure or reserve a bike space on the train.
You can take your bike with you free of charge, dismantled and stored in a bag, or book a space with the Train + Vélo service.
1/ Only standard bicycles are accepted on board trains. The transport of recumbent bicycles, tricycles, tandems, cargo and longtail bicycles and trailers of any kind is not permitted.
2/ Subject to availability. Note also that your bicycle is accepted on board Transilien buses (including Noctilien) with a luggage hold.
3/ Exception: on the INTERCITÉS Clermont-Ferrand Béziers line, bicycles are carried free of charge and no booking is required.
